Learn the skills needed to create your very own woolly embroidery. We cover a series basic stitches, tips and tricks plus you’ll work up a sweet little sampler that’s yours to keep.

The goal of this beginning crewel class is for students to gain knowledge of traditional techniques and materials used in crewel embroidery. We will cover laid stitches such as trellis, outlining, and shading stitch techniques such as long & short blending, turkey work, as well as how to use tools, wool threads, and quality linen twill fabric. In our first session, we will learn stitch techniques and become comfortable with using wool threads on a doodle cloth. Our second session will be dedicated to beginning a small pattern. Pattern selections will be available to students in class, but if you have an idea please bring it!

Cost: $140 course fee, includes 4 hours of instruction, sampler supplies and a basic stitch kit.

Prerequisite: Hand Embroidery 101 or equivalent skills

Students need to come with a minimum of 8″x8″ linen twill fabric, a selection of Appleton wools including at least 3 concurrent shades of one color, size 22 chenille needles, 8″ embroidery hoop.
