Get to Know Laura
Laura is one of our terrific instructors – lending her talents to teaching children’s sewing classes and handbag workshops.
Although Laura has only been teaching at Fabricate Studios for 1 year, she brings over 20 years of crafting experience to the table and is comfortable teaching people of all ages. Laura also takes classes at Fabricate so that she can sharpen her skills, as well as learn new things! She recently took the lingerie class we held during the summer, and made a beautiful bra and panty set!
Q&A with Laura
What is your craft of choice?
Sewing
At which store would you like to max-out your credit card?
Michael’s, JoAnn’s and Target. I also go in there for one thing and walk out with 20! (I’m sure none of us understand what it’s like to walk in for 1 thing and leave with 20, right?)
Which storybook/cartoon character turns you on the most?
Ariel from the Little Mermaid
What was your favorite TV show when growing up?
The Golden Girls (still my favorite show!)
What was your favorite toy as a kid?
Barbie dolls
How old is the oldest pair of shoes in your closet?
Great question! I still have my original Doc Martens I wore in high school in 1998. So 19 years old.
Can you play any instruments? If so, which ones?
I have no musical talents.
What is the oldest thing in your refrigerator?
Do condiments count? A few weeks?
What is your favorite cereal?
Cinnamon Toast Crunch!
What, if anything, have you ever re-gifted?
Craft supplies that I never used. (I’m pretty sure most of us have done this. We start out ready to make one craft, buy ALL the stuff, and never use it all.)
What was the worst punishment you received at school?
Detention?
What’s the strangest talent you have?
No strange talents. Just a strange gal.
Some of the loves of Laura’s life include her dog Stella, cat Remy and boyfriend David.
What was your childhood nickname?
Cacamozza
Do you have any strange phobias?
I don’t like swimming in the ocean. I don’t like that I can’t see the bottom and don’t know what’s lurking under my feet. But I love the beach. That’s my happy place.
What’s your favorite flavor of potato chips?
BBQ and Sea Salt & Vinegar
Have you ever had a poem or a song written about you? If yes, tell us more.
Yes! My first boyfriend in college wrote an instrumental song about me. I still have the CD somewhere. I think it’s called Mesmerized By Her Beauty.
Which way does your toilet paper hang on the wall – over or under?
OVER!
What, or who, are you a “closet” fan of?
Justin Bieber
What are three things still left on your bucket list?
Become a mom. Write a book. Be on the Today Show.
If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?
Endless energy! (Whew! Wouldn’t we all love that!?)
What is the worst pet you ever had? Why?
A hedgehog. He wasn’t cuddly and he would poop on himself and keep walking in it.
When Laura isn’t busy making lovely handbags and teaching classes – she can be found making beautiful items for herself and others! She and David recently purchased a house in Lawrenceville, and she also works for Craft Box Girls in Atlanta – a website on all things DIY!

It is so much fun learning about all the instructors. I can’t wait to see the next post. I think Laura and I could be friends! Justin Beiber – yes please. Toilet paper over? Of course! And a lover of cats and dogs. 🙂
