Create your own Buckthorn Backpack or Tote in this fun, hands‑on sewing class designed for confident beginners and intermediate sewists! Over the course of two sessions (2.5 hours each), you’ll learn essential bag‑making techniques while crafting a stylish, functional accessory you’ll love to carry every day.

Both the backpack and tote feature a secure zippered top, roomy front pocket, sturdy flat base, and a divided interior pocket to keep your essentials organized. Choose the Backpack for adjustable straps and space to fit a tablet or small laptop—perfect for commuting, school, or travel. Prefer something versatile and easy to grab on the go? The Tote is ideal for carrying craft projects, books, or everyday items.

Whether you're expanding your sewing skills or making a beautiful handmade gift, this class will guide you step‑by‑step through cutting, construction, hardware installation, and professional finishing techniques. You’ll leave with a polished, durable bag ready for everyday use!

  • 1.5 yards Fusible Woven Interfacing (Pellon SF101 – 20”-wide)
  • 1/2 yard Fusible Fleece interfacing -OR- By Annie’s Soft + Stable foam interfacing
  • (1) 16” handbag zipper for top closure (must be 1.25″ wide)
  • (2) 1.5”-wide triangle rings -OR- d-rings
  • (2) 1.5”-wide swivel clasps
  • (2) 1.5”-wide strap slider
  • 4 yards of 1.5″ webbing for strap -OR- add an additional 3/4 yard of exterior fabric to make strap
  • + 1.5 yards interfacing

  • Basic sewing kit
