Ah the serger, garment sewing's holy grail.  You've heard it can save you time, make your projects look more professional and open windows of possibilities for new projects....just as soon as you learn how to thread the darn thing!  The first thing you'll learn is how to thread your serger.  Then we'll begin and exploring all the functionality your serger has to offer including different serger stitches, troubleshooting breaks and mroe. Plus, as an added bonus, you will be taught a few fun decorative stitches!

NOTE: for all Serger classes, due to the complexity and variety of sergers on the market, we have a maximum of 4 students per class.  Please register early to secure your spot.

Prerequisite: None

Skill level: This is an introductory, beginner class. Perfect for new users and those who need a refresher.

Skills you'll learn: proper threading, thread tension, understanding your sergers features, serging inner and outer corners, securing the ends of a serged seam and some invaluable tips and tricks to help reduce frustration.

Time Commitment: 1 session of 2.5 hours of instruction and some supplies.

Instructor: Sarah

Sarah studied fashion design in Michigan and has worked in the fashion industry for over 10 years. When she isn't sewing, she enjoys cooking, yoga, and traveling. She has her own small clothing brand, Revive Threads Co., with a focus on sustainable and repurposed clothing.

Sarah has a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design from Western Michigan University. When not teaching at Fabricate Studios or traveling, you can find Sarah at her studio Revive Threads Co. where she loves creating sustainable clothing by upcycling amazing treasures and vintage fabrics. All of the clothing at Revive Threads is made from 90%-100% recycled materials.

Before launching Revive Threads Co. Sarah worked full-time in the industry using her skills in professional pattern making, technical pattern drafting, draping, and bringing paper to life at an apparel company in the metro Atlanta area. Sarah has over 8 years of hands-on experience that she willingly shares with the students at Fabricate Studios.
