Sewing 102 is geared towards the returning sewer or advanced beginner. In this course we pick the projects, you create your own dimensions and you make your own supplies list. This is the perfect class for a sewer that wants to learn the fundamentals of taking ideas (dog beds, zipper pouches, mother/daughter aprons, you get the idea ) and making them a reality.
Class 1 & 2: Custom sewing machine cover. We measure your machine, sewing “math” that includes seam allowances and ease, cut fabrics and begin quilting them together. There’s plenty of opportunity for design choices with this project, which you can see if the additional projects photos on this page, so this project can range from basic to complex based on the student.
Class 2 & 3: We finish up our custom sewing machine cover and get started on a custom boxy pouch with invisible zipper closure. If you have a specific purpose in mind for this pouch then we can tailor the finished size to your storage needs. We’ve had pouches large enough to store manila folders or smaller than a moleskin notebook. Our instructors tend to use them for cords or traveling with make-up and beauty products.
Class 4: Custom pajama pants. You bring a favorite pair of pj pants from home and we recreate a new pair in the studio together. This project is a class favorite and the fabric selections are some of our favorite.
Bonus Projects: we provide a bunch of great bonus projects to reinforce the skills taught in class.
Cost: $350 course fee includes 10 hours of instruction. Supplies are provided by the student for this class series. Supply requirements are listed on the supplies tab.
Prerequisite: Sewing 101 or equivalent skills
Skills You’ll Learn: Making and applying bias tape binding, hand finishing, quilting, invisible zippers, working with a variety of interfacings, elastics and casings, drafting a simple pattern from an existing garment.
Prework: Wash and press fabrics before class
