Learn advanced garment making skills while creating a customized one piece swimsuit.

During 5 hours of private swimwear lessons, you will learn how to cut and sew a swimsuit based on your size/measurements. We will go over different sewing techniques suitable for swimwear fabrics as well as make slight alterations to a pattern to really personalize the sit. Students can select their own swimwear pattern or we can provide recommendations in advance. If additional instruction is needed we can schedule as needed.

Cost: $425 fee, includes 5 hours of instruction. Additional time can be purchased if needed. Private sewing lessons are typically booked in 2+ hour blocks at a rate of $85/hour.

Scheduling: This instructor is generally available on Tuesday and Thursdays throughout the day with lesson times between 11:00am and 5:00pm as well as Saturday throughout the day between 10:00am and 4:00pm.  To see current availability, please view the Google calendar which shows OPEN times.  Private lessons are booked in 2+ hour increments. Enter the date/time in the note section at checkout so we can secure that spot for you. **Swimwear is a 5-hour lesson, please select two dates/times for your lesson.

Instructor: Sarah has a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design from Western Michigan University. When she is not teaching at Fabricate Studios, she works full-time in the industry using her skills in professional pattern making, technical pattern drafting, draping, and bringing paper to life at an apparel company in the metro Atlanta area. Sarah has over 6 years of hands-on experience that she willingly shares with the students at Fabricate Studios.

Required Supplies

  • Serger and/or sewing machine (instruction can be provided for both)

Below is a general idea of what students will need to complete a swimwear project.  Actual supply requirements will vary based on the pattern selected.

  • 1 1/2 – 2 yards of Swimwear Fabric/Spandex Blend
  • optional: 1/2 yard contrast for trim
  • 1 yard tricot swimwear lining
  • 1 package 1/4″ wide swimwear elastic
  • 1 pair molded foam swimwear cups
  • coordinating thread
  • Mechanical pencil
  • 1 roll of wide kraft paper
